Advantages Of FRP Molded Grating

More and more application experts are choosing fiberglass grating because of its many advantages over steel, wood and aluminum. Unlike steel, FRP molded grating won’t rust or corrode, plus there’s no need for ongoing maintenance such as repainting. Pound for pound, molded FRP offers the strength of steel at a fraction of the weight, so the structural support needs are reduced and the material is also easier to maneuver on the installation site. Unlike aluminum and steel, FRP gratings don’t conduct electricity, reducing the risk of shock. And unlike wood, FRP molded grating won’t rot or warp and is resistant to insects.

In addition to the excellent corrosion protection, fiberglass molded grating has the color integrated throughout, so it can’t be scratched off and won’t flake away over time. Depending on the resin system used, standard colors include yellow, dark gray, light gray and green.

Slip resistance can be built in, making FRP molded grating ideal for walkways and fiberglass stair treads. The corrosion resistance also makes fiberglass grating a great choice for sump and trench covers, industrial flooring, chemical storage areas and much more. FRP molded grating can be combined with other FRP structures to create a safety or structural system that provides excellent durability for decades of dependable performance.

  • Reduce Waste While Maintaining Strength: The interwoven square mesh construction in FRP molded grating provides bi-directional strength, so you can efficiently get the most use out of the material by cutting each grating panel to size without worry.
  • Designed For Long Service Life: Fiberglass grating has a high resin-to-glass ratio (approximately 65% resin to 35% glass by weight), so it holds up for years even in the most demanding conditions.

OSCO also offers a wide range of fiberglass grating clips to meet a variety of installation needs.

Resin System Types

FRP molded grating gets its level of corrosion protection based on the resin system used. The resin systems for all fiberglass grating available from OSCO meet Class 1 Flame Spread Rating per ASTM E-84 test standards.

GP: This general-purpose orthophthalic polyester resin system offers good corrosion resistance at an economical price.

Standard colors: Yellow and Light Gray

IFR: This premium-grade isophthalic polyester resin system provides excellent corrosion protection.

Standard colors: Green, Yellow, Dark Gray and Light Gray

VFR: Choose a vinyl ester resin system for the highest level of corrosion protection.

Standard colors: Orange and Dark Gray

Molded FRP Grating Top Surfaces

OSCO offers a wide variety of molded grating panels in square or rectangular mesh configurations with either Meniscus or Grit-Top slip-resistant surfaces.

  • Grit-Top: Quartz grit anti-slip surface
  • Meniscus: Concave, half-moon cross section with no grit
