VIDEO: Proactive Ways to Prevent Common OSHA Safety Violations
Ensuring workplace safety isn’t just about protecting employees — it’s about protecting your business from costly fines, legal issues and operational downtime. At OSCO Safety, we believe in proactive safety measures that help businesses comply with OSHA regulations, particularly under OSHA standard 1910, which covers ladders, platforms and railing systems.
Kyle Pollino, Sales Manager at OSCO, shares valuable insights in our latest video on how businesses can prevent common OSHA safety violations and improve workplace safety with ReadySeries industrial safety solutions.
The Cost of OSHA Violations
OSHA safety violations impact businesses in two major ways:
- Financial penalties — Non-compliance can result in significant fines.
- Operational disruptions — Businesses may be required to shut down operations until compliance is restored, leading to lost productivity and revenue.
Rather than waiting for an incident or violation to occur, taking a proactive approach to OSHA compliance ensures the safety of your employees while avoiding unnecessary risks.
Pollino emphasizes this point, stating, “Be proactive. Take care of those employees that work for you on a day-in and day-out basis.”
ReadySeries: A Compliant and Long-Term Safety Solution
One of the most common compliance mistakes businesses make is assuming that older safety structures remain OSHA-compliant indefinitely. Previously installed safety structures — especially those made of traditional materials like steel, aluminum and wood — may degrade over time due to rust and corrosion. Even if they were once compliant, they may no longer meet updated OSHA regulations.
OSCO’s ReadySeries platforms and crossovers provide an innovative and fully OSHA-compliant alternative. OSCO is proud to be the exclusive source of ReadySeries modular solutions, as these fiberglass-reinforced polymer (FRP) safety products offer superior durability and safety compared to traditional materials like steel, wood or aluminum.
Advantages of FRP Over Traditional Materials
1. Corrosion Resistance
Unlike steel, which rusts over time, FRP safety products are resistant to corrosion from chemicals, moisture and extreme environments. This makes them ideal for industrial applications where exposure to harsh conditions is common.
Pollino explains, “FRP is the best option when guarding access platforms anywhere where passive fall protection is a need — specifically because it solves the safety concerns of other materials, like steel, wood, aluminum and other alternatives.”
2. Electrical Safety
FRP does not conduct electricity, eliminating the risk of electrical hazards. Unlike metal platforms, FRP structures do not require grounding, making them a safer choice for facilities with electrical equipment.
3. Enhanced Workplace Safety Features
ReadySeries FRP stairs and platforms include built-in safety enhancements, such as:
- Differentiating color nosing on stair treads, improving visibility to reduce trips and falls.
- Non-skid surface grit, which enhances slip resistance to prevent workplace accidents.
Pollino highlights these features, “On a lot of the FRP materials that can be used, there’s a differentiating color between the actual treads to nosing, so it catches your eye as you’re walking up or down the stairs. That easily gives you the ability to understand there’s another step you’re going to go up or down. There’s also a non-skid surface grit that is actually part of the manufacturing process with either of the molded grating or the pultruded grating types, which holds up better. It gives an additional layer of slip resistance, so preventing slips, trips, falls and things of that nature that happen every day in the workplace.”
4. Modular & Easy to Install
ReadySeries safety platforms and other structural FRP solutions are designed for quick, easy assembly and adaptability. The modular design allows for reconfiguration as workplaces evolve, making them an ideal solution for facilities that expand or change layouts over time. Additionally, they are fully stocked and ready to ship within a few business days, helping businesses maintain OSHA compliance quickly and efficiently.
Pollino emphasizes the fast shipping. “One of the benefits of modular safety products is the fact that they’re in-stock, ready-to-ship items,” Pollino says. “So, generally in two to three business days, they can ship out and be on your facility.”
